In order to be able to use the re-certification, the “Extension or renewal of certificate” option is offered in many web servers. Here, a new request is created which is then copied to the website in the relevant field. If your web server does not offer the aforementioned option, a new key, and therefore also a new request, must generally be created. Some additional programs such as Open SSL can create requests with an existing key.
