This happens from time to time with older clients. It is recommended to update the client software or perform an operating system update in this case.

With Microsoft products, the “trustworthy root certificate authorities” are updated infrequently via corresponding updates. For example, the Microsoft update “KB931125” updates the “trustworthy root certificate authorities”.

Using the Microsoft program “Update Root Certificates Component”, the newer versions of MS Internet Explorer can directly download the current root certificates from the Microsoft update servers, provided there is an Internet connection. This takes place in the background, unnoticed by the user. We basically advise the use of up-to-date browser or client versions. If it is not possible to use the latest browser version, at least the security critical and trustworthy root certificate authorities updates should be installed.

It is possible for the domain controller to distribute root certificates within a domain, where applicable. More information about this can be found in the operating documentation of the domain controller.
