A signature algorithm is used in PKS certificates which is not supported by Windows without additional software. The CA certificates currently in use are signed by the Federal Network Agency [Bundesnetzagentur] using the hash algorithm SHA-2. Microsoft Windows first supported this hash algorithm from Microsoft Vista and Windows XP service pack 3. To handle the hash algorithm correctly, you need a Crypto Service Provider (CSP) which includes this hash algorithm. All signature application components suitable for creating qualified electronic signatures contain such a CSP.
